Single-Family Homes In Taos

Housing in Taos, New Mexico is as diverse as its people. One can find homes for sale constructed from age old material like adobe as well as more innovative products as rastra, pumice crete or with sips walls. In between, we have frame, straw bale, manufactured and modular.

Just as there is a broad range of materials, prices run from inexpensive to high end. But this is not Aspen and it is not Vail. Here, $1,000,000 is a lot of money and can buy something special in real estate.

If views are your priority, I suggest you look outside of the Town of Taos limits. Within, you will find convenience and the ability to walk to restaurants, shops and galleries. Also, lots in town are smaller and those outside the town might be 1 to 10 acres. We don’t have many parcels larger then that unless you travel some.

Construction prices vary in Taos, New Mexico. One good local fellow prepares a booklet based on information he gains from contractors he works with. It does come out annually – at least so far – and it provides a good way to estimate costs. We can provide one for you upon request and it is helpful. It provides a way to compare for sale properties that those that can be created.

As in most places, homes here tend to fit into the landscape, so one will find mostly one story homes, in earth tones, that seem to snuggle the land. For the most part, one will find homes for sale that are pueblo style in nature or what is sometimes called Northern New Mexican architecture. But some folks want different so you will also find modern, contemporary and earth ships homes for sale that are unique to this part of the world. Earth ships are built from old tires and bottles and cans, and are passive solar in design. They are worth a trip here by themselves.

The key is that this is a place where creativity is appreciated and encouraged. Create your vision, then come buy it or build it – but do follow your dreams. Taos, New Mexico is the place to live them.
