GALLERIES IN TAOS
Taos Art Galleries... the reason many come here in the first place.
For more than a century, Taos has been an art center and mecca for creativity. The breadth of the work that can be seen in the great galleries that dot this town will blow you away. For variety and quality, check out:
Envisions Gallery - Located in the Overland Sheepskin Compound two miles north of town. A great place to see contemporary work in a comfortable setting. And, the only place in town where you can find the work of my wife, Sharyn Blaustein. Ask to see her encaustics.
Photographic - 1304 Paseo del Pueblo Norte. This cutting edge photo gallery is just north of town, located in a charming part of El Prado, surrounded by galleries and Mexican import stores. It is run by my son Jonathan, who shows his own beautiful photographs, as well as the work of some very talented photographers from New York and California.
Wilder Nightingale Fine Art - 119 Kit Caron Rd., just east of the plaza. A large space with many artists, including the work of my dear friend Ray Vinella. Ray is one great artist and a great teacher.
Lenny Foster's Living Light Photography - 246A Ledoux Street, next to the Harwood Museum, a must visit. Lenny features his own work and it's worth the few steps from the plaza to visit. His work is cool. As is he.
Total Arts Gallery - 122A Kit Carson Rd, just east of the plaza. This fine gallery features some of the best work in this town or any. Go see the work of David Leffel and Sherrie McGraw. If you have deep pockets, buy Portrait of Harvey. If someone hasn't beaten you to it.
Michael McCormick Gallery - 106C Paseo del Pueblo Norte, just past the entrance to the plaza as you head north. Go see the work of Miguel Martinez, who is famous for the women's faces he paints, with awesome almond shaped eyes.
Fenix Gallery - 228B Paseo del Pueblo Norte, across from the Fechin House and Inn. This gallery has been in town a long time and for good reason. Check it out.
Parks Gallery - 140 Kit Carson Road, just east of Total Arts Gallery. These folks don't represent many artists, but they have good ones. You'll enjoy this place.
Studio de Colores Gallery - 119 Quesnel St., a short block from the plaza. This gallery features the work of Ed Sandoval and Ann Huston exclusively. They are both really good.
